Small Bites on KATV Good Morning Arkansas

Dr Jones made an appearance on KATV Good Morning Arkansas on Wednesday, March 14. He shared some of the best things parents can do to care for kids teeth! The biggest tips are to:

-Switch from a bottle to a sippy cup at age 1

-Don't put baby to bed with a bottle

-Brush teeth, especially before bed, with a smear of toothpaste

-The sooner you get rid of the pacifier, the better, but definitely by age 3

-Start flossing around age 3

Here's the clip! Thanks, KATV, for having us down!

Tips for Caring for Little Smiles

Oral health plays an important role in the overall health of our children, and dental pain is one of the biggest reasons kids miss school. With February being National Children’s Dental Health Month, here are a few tips from Dr. Keith Jones, owner of Small Bites Pediatric Dentistry.

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD I BEGIN TAKING MY CHILD TO THE DENTIST?
It is recommended that by a child’s first birthday they begin seeing a dentist regularly. In addition to checking for decay, we’ll discuss healthy habits and the development progress of their incoming teeth. This also allows kids to become comfortable with us at an early age.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING I CAN DO TO CARE FOR MY CHILD'S BABY TEETH?
Tooth decay can happen at an early age. As soon as baby teeth erupt, begin gently brushing. It’s important to brush twice a day, especially at night before sleep. And, no bottles or cups in the bed!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN A PEDIATRIC DENTIST AND A GENERAL DENTIST?
Pediatric dentists receive an additional 2 to 3 years of training and are solely focused on the needs and development of children. Our office environment is also designed to be fun and kid-friendly, with TVs over every chair, interactive games and a big prize wall.

MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS AND I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR DENTAL VISIT.
A large part of my training was focused on special needs patients. I understand that each child is unique and I strive to work closely with parents to create an
experience where they are comfortable. Most
importantly, I want to alleviate any pain or discomfort for my patients as quickly as possible.

It would be an honor to care for your child’s smile.  Come by for a tour of the office and let’s chat!
